Late  Breaking  Bayshore  Corvair  NEWS !!!!

Dateline: Tuesday September 15, 2008

The Bayshore General Meeting : We will postpone our monthly general meeting which would have normally been scheduled for this Tues. 9/16. Since we had our August meeting later in the month and we are focusing our efforts on keeping our Pocono event alive, Bill and I feel we would best use any time we have to try and generate registrations for the event.

Thanks, Kevin.

WALL TURKEY DERBY XXXV ON FOR NOV. 28-29.
By Walter Elliott

WALL TWP., N.J. -- There will be a Turkey Derby XXXV at Wall Township Speedway Nov. 28-29. WTS's General Partners have made a agreement with its Operations Manager, Jim Morton, to re-open the 57-year-old banked paved one-third-mile oval for as many as six dates in November.

The first three dates are for practice sessions leading up to the post-Thanksgiving Day classic with Nov. 30 set aside as a rain date. 'I got the agreement call from General Partner Timm Shinn 7:30 p.m. Saturday,' said Morton Aug. 31. 'The practice dates are set for Saturdays Nov. 15, Nov. 22 and also the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Nov. 24.' Morton said that Turkey Derby XXXV format, racing divisions and other details are to be posted on www.wallspeedway.com Sept. 7.

The agreement allows a modified stock car racing tradition that Thomas and Jennie Nicol started in 1974. Some of the best modified stock car drivers in the country have since competed against the local NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stars on the banked paved one-third mile oval.

From looking at the time sheets posted on the NECC web site, it looks like Terry Stafford of LICA was 12th (of 35 cars) quick overall at the Putman Park Time Trials and 14th (of 45 cars) quick in the AutoX. And that's in an IS-2 car! Great run Terry.

Walking through the local Shoprite parking lot one Sunday, I was surprised to see a beautiful red Corvair Rampside parked with all the other shoppers. It wasn't parked in a remote area but very close to the store entrance to save the driver some walking. Just like all the other "everyday" vehicles. Pretty neat to see a Rampside and I snapped the following photos with my cell phone.

Right now I see the Red Rampside is parked in the OTA Auto Repair Shop in Lacey Township on Route 9. I don't know if it is someones daily ride, in for repairs or if it is for sale? Nice truck, stop by and see it for yourself.

Catch you later. That's my name!
